This project cost me around $4
I used AttackGoose's mask tutorial as a guideline for how to go about making this mask.
Supplies
Step 1
You're going to want to mark down 1 1/2 inches from the top on one pail (Pail A) and 2 inches from the top on the other (Pail B), and then cut along those lines.
Step 2
Next I cut a small slit along the side seams of Pail A and then wedged it into Pail B so that it was at a bit of an angle, that way it would go down and out like Sans's head. Once in place, I glued it down.
Step 3
Next I cut out his cheek shape, as well as around the bottom of the mask, this way it's easier to get the mask on and off. I also trimmed down the inside and padded it with a bit of tape.
Step 4
Next I covered the treat pail faces with tape, and drew on where I wanted the eyes and nose.
Step 5
After I cut out the eyes and nose, I started building up all of the other details with foamboard.
Step 6
Next I covered the whole mask with two layers of paper mache, and then two layers of just glue.
Step 7
Next I painted the details, including dry brushing some blue bags under his eyes. Now I actually had painted it with pastels before putting the fabric and book light in, but I didn't like the way the pastels looked, so I went back and painted it differently before sealing it again. If you do this just make sure to cover the eyes and book light to avoid getting sealer on them.
Step 8
For the light, I just took two squares of blue fabric, glued them together along the edges, and then glued them around the light. This way it not only defuses the light, but also makes it blue. I then broke off the bottom clip since it made it stick up way too far, and used a piece of foamboard to even it out, since without the bottom piece it sat at an angle. I also glued the light a little bit to the eye fabric. The eye fabric is just some sheer fabric that I glued around the eyes and nose.
Finishing
Next I just glued this flap of white fabric around the top of the hole so that my Niece's hair would be covered, and that was it! If you need to you can also glue some foam to the top and opposite side of the book light on the inside of the mask to make it fit better, I had to so that it wouldn't move around on her.
